For me the male Ruby-throated is the most beautiful. I really like its iridescent ruby gorget (throat patch), especially when the sun directly shines on it. The male is a little smaller than the female. Its wings beat with 70 times per second, which is about 20 bpm faster than the females. They can fly up, down, sideways, forwards, and, backwards. The heart beats about 1,200 times per minute. They consume about half of their body weight in nectar per day.
